I love that cafe, whether in new york or in london. even if I know it’s commercial, it plays to my feeling-artisan self, common table, chocolate spreads and all.

I had a hard time deciding which burger to order from a selection of this, the Habanero, Mexican, Chilli, Avocado Bacon. But the mushroom & horseradish sauce, rocket & mayo won me over. milagro no cheese. YUM.
remembering summer! take me (back) there
Last set of books I read. Helen Hollick’s Pendragon’s Banner books.
I’ve enjoyed reading about the Arthurian legend ever since Mom gave me Mists of Avalon in high school. I remember staying up late to read it. I had to use a nightlight since my roommate (I think it was Ate) was trying to sleep. I probably fell asleep in the wee small hours of the morning but I just couldn’t put the book down.
For some reason TV and film versions don’t quite measure up to the various books that I’ve read. The Camelot that is on TV now got boring really quickly even if Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) is in it and Eva Green is awesome and also Lancelot/Leontes is pretty hot and was also on Fringe! But both the Arthur and Guinevere characters in this particular show are really whiny and annoying.
I liked the editing eye that Helen brought to the original story, so that she could write her own version - no magic, no Merlin, no annoying Lancelot. Definitely still a love triangle (and eventually hmm quadrangle) but in a different way. I liked both her Arthur and Gwenhwyfar and the way she developed characters by staying true to their motivations. Nobody annoying except for the villains!
I started Kingmaking, first book in the trilogy, right before leaving for the UK and finished it there. Against the perfect backdrop of castles and countryside that was the best moodsetter. Then I had perfect mental pictures to finish Pendragon’s Banner &Shadow of the King with.
